Our constitution gave us and ensured us are rights. It is required to be the Social Contract Theory. Yet, we must still hold up are end of the agreement. As a citizen, we have responsibilities and duties we must do for our government.
Our Rights
The Due Process of Law- The government must follow the procedures established by law in order to punish us, treating all equally.
Equal Protection- Every citizen is treated equally under the law.
Basic Freedoms- Basic freedoms are freedoms included in the first amendment, such as the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. In a democratic society, we must be able to exchange ideas.
Limits on Rights- Our rights aren't endless however. The government can pass laws that limit us in certain ways to protect the community. However, such a law must be reasonable, constitutional, and effect everyone equally.
Our Duties
Duties are mandatory of all citizens. Citizens can be punished if they refuse to do their duty.
Obey the Law- Laws are in place in order to maintain order, safety, and health. When someone breaks a law, he endangers himself and others and disturbs our society's order.
Pay Taxes- Taxes are used by the government to maintain the army and build important public facilities, such as roads and schools. These all benefit the American citizen.
Defend the Nation- All males of eighteen years must sign up for military service in case they are needed. We do not have a draft, required military service, but a war might make the draft come back.
Jury Duty- All citizens eighteen or over can be called to serve in a Jury during a trial. Remember, every citizen has the right to a trial by Jury.

Responsibilities are not mandatory, yet they help the smooth running of society, and a lot of the time, ourselves.
Knowing what the Government does- Knowing what the government is important. If you ever feel strongly about something the government did, it is also your duty to voice your opinion. This can help the government improve to better serve the people.
Know your Rights- Knowing your rights helps keep them alive and prevent them from being mistreated.
Vote- All citizen eighteen or older can vote. Voting keeps the government controlled by the people and helps the government bend in the people's favor.
Respecting other's Rights- It is important to remember that all Americans have the rights you do, so you must respect them, regardless if you disagree with them or if they another race or religion.
Other Responsibilities- Supporting our family, respecting diversity, accepting responsibility for your actions.
